Enter the strange and wonderful world of
Atelier van Lieshout, the "art company" of Joep van Lieshout. These guys design a wide range of things, and express (through the projects) a range of raw and funny criticisms of trendy Dutch Pragmatism.
Although they began by designing mobile homes only, they went on to declare an autonomous free state in Rotterdam--which is a bit like founding a Catholic mission in Vatican City. The strange thing is, I don't think this struck
them as being genuinely pointless. More pointedly pointless. Which seems pointless somehow, nevertheless. Don't you just love the Dutch?
