This week marks the one year anniversary of
the first official academic conference to discuss Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It was held at the University of East Anglia, from 19-20th of October 2002. Apparently, there was much metaphorical wailing and knashing-of-teeth about the academy's "vampiric relationship to primary texts."
Apparently, Joss Wheedon commented in response: "It's a really good thing. Academics need to discuss popular culture, even if it's idiotic."
