Peaches & Cream

Peaches rocks. Just like her URL,
peachesrocks.com. It sounds like a throwaway description, but honestly,
Peaches does rock. Look, there's a shade of Pat Benatar in there, and plenty of Siouxsie. She makes good on everything Madonna pretends to be. She's Ozzy, spitting blood on the crowd after feigning death on stage. She's got the lyrics and music of a 14-year-old who has a tremendous grasp on the dozen bad words in the English language. She's a dyke hero.

She also the performer who bores the pretty blonde girl running the mixer, the one with the cute flowers on her shirt. (I tried to take a picture, but she was too far away. It was the picture of true boredom.) That onscreen act with Iggy Pop singing a duet
in video really hammered it home that this whole thing's a show, a packaged piece of punk, ready for easy consumption. Just a spoonful of irony helps the medicine go down. And let's not forget her opening band, Electrocute, as they did a good job impersonating that 80's LA band X, with the 21st century twist of just getting over with it and taking off their clothes in about 2 songs. I found it a strange act of modesty for one of the girls to continually hike up her skirt despite having already taken off her shirt and wrapped her legs around an audience member's face.

The thing that made the whole concert work, though, had nothing and everything to do with Peaches. The Sox won. It was phenomenal, there at the bar, watching a silent tv with faithful Sox fans as Peaches took the stage. Bottom of the 9th, 4 to 3, no outs. Lowe on the mound. Peaches' deafening beats only emphasizing our own heartbeats. Her first two songs ending exactly in time with the first two outs, the crowds here and there erupting in simultaneous applause. And then, as the Sox get their 3rd out with the bases loaded, Peaches climbs the bar and threatens to stick her fingers up the ass of some guy who grabbed her. And then, apparently, she does. It was the pinnacle of wholesome fun and ultimate raunchydom. Peaches rocks. Go Sox.
