elementary, my dear Penfold.
A sample-happy Englishman named DJ Dangermouse (after the classic cartoon) has engendered another copyright spat with an unsanctioned remix of Jay-Z's latest album. After obtaining raw vocal tracks from a friend who engineered "the Black Album," Mr. Mouse then recreated all the backing tracks using the White Album. Predictably, the result was named: yep, "the Grey Album."
The whole thing smells like publicity, and I'm not sure that the result really comes off very well. But sadly, it's a lot more interesting than a lot of current hip-hop--including Jay-Z's original. Download the controversy
