Halvsies
The Other World Cup FinalThe trophy was designed for a unique football match. Held between FIFAs two lowest ranked teams. Bhutan vs Monserrat teams (202 and 203 respectively). One a small land-locked Himalayan kingdom, the other a volcanic island in the Caribbean. The game was played on the morning of the World Cup Final in Japan, with Bhutan winning 4-0.
The trophy was an expression of solidarity for this unusual game. Its a trophy that breaks into two pieces. Each captain having something to hold up, each team having something to take home.
At the end of the day, a trophy of two halves. And of course the real winner was football.
Good thing, too. We wouldn't want to start up that old bloodfeud between Bhutan and Monserrat. Vicious.
