An uncommon number of successful Thai films seem to be about transvestites. Among the recent titles are Iron Ladies, about a cross-dressing volleyball team, and The Adventures of Iron Pussy, which sounds painful. Thailand is still one of the most progressive countries in its generalized acceptance of gay culture. Much like Texas.
The latest transvestite hit, Beautiful Boxer, is the true story of Nong Toom, a kick-boxing champion who fights to raise money for a sex-change operation. The tag line is: "he fights like a man... so that he can become a woman."
