Nothing new under the pretentious sun
I just read about
clark lewis in DWR's news bulletin.
The clarklewis restaurant is a special case study. Founders Michael, a trained architect, and Naomi Hebberoy first became known for evolving their catering service into a dining experience called Family Supper, during which 30 strangers and acquaintances sit together at long wooden tables. There is no menu; rather, the guests dine on Chef Morgan Brownlow's selection of the night—passed in large bowls and on platters from person to person. This unique twice-monthly event led to clarklewis, now a permanent location in the community offering Chef Morgan's fresh fare.
I can show you a journal entry of mine from 1994, I think, where I imagine this exact thing. Now that I read about it (the
ripe site says, "and for the first three years it wasn't even open to the public"), I'm fairly nauseous at the hoity-toity self-satisfaction of the it all. The site is irritatingly GIF-text, too, which bothers me no end.
