Shut up, Danny
Listening to Daniel Libeskind is one of the world's most irritaining activities. Interestingly, this quality has bridged a couple of "paradigm shifts": from his impenetrable theory to his new, sentimentalisms and aw-shucks, good-old-timey references to "freedom" and "good people." God bless those who have pointed out publicly that this language (and the architecture which is supports) is basically just Bush-league kitsch with a European accent. Here is some notable drivel from a recent interview with Blueprint:
"I've never met anyone from the younger generation under the age of 30 who doesn't like my buildings. The Jewish museum is now the most popular museum in Germany."
"Education is important: just because it doesn't have a lot of money or a huge site doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a new identity and a new expression."
"My proposal [for the WTC] was different because it wasn't dependent on the ego of the architect."
"I've never had dream projects. It is more interesting to be in the real world."
p.s. does anyone else find it interesting that, although Danny's rhetoric has swung from de-con to neo-con, the architecture looks pretty much the same? Now, the crack or the tortured shape doesn't represent "differance," but the suffering and healing of the American people. Hmmm...
