Endangered, or just hard to find? (potayto-potahto)
This morning I heard this extended story on
BBC NEWS: China finds more wild pandas. Apparently the latest survey of pandas in China shows there are about 1600 of them out there, which is 40% more than previously thought. The man representing the news, whoever he was--spokesman, WWF mouthpiece, whatever--was very excited about it all. Then Julian Marshall had to ask, in a dispassionate, unimpressed way that I love about BBC contrarian/Devil's Advocate/leading question interview style, "Isn't it possible that these pandas aren't endangered at all, and it's just a matter of going out and finding them?" Good stuff.
