It finally happened. I was wondering when it'd happen: a 3d online community with shopping. I had this idea a few years ago, that you could combine department-store shopping, like at Amazon, with the fun interactivity of DOOM. Of course, as with novels, vcr's and streaming video, it'd have to be introduced with porn first.

One adult entertainment company says the answer is the Red Light World, a 3-D adult-oriented virtual environment that offers the sex-starved a chance to visit the Dutch city's infamous quarter and take in its XXX movie theaters, Viagra outlets, sex toy stores and adult DVD shops. Players get to meet sexy singles and more, all without springing for a plane ticket or worrying about getting mugged.
Actually, my real wish is to combine shopping with DOOM, but allow people to choose whether they're shopping or trying to kill everything in sight. Let them log into the same world and see what happens. Maybe shoppers would learn to pack heat. Maybe commandos would add an F-key for quick coupon redemption...
