Give a Damn
I just read an
interview in Wired with 30-year-old Cameron Sinclair, who runs
Architecture for Humanity. I had no idea it was a one-man show. He runs it with a Sidekick and an Apple G4. Wow.
Architecture for Humanity is a continuing series of competitions to help out war- and disease-torn parts of the world (shelters in Kosova, AIDS info centers in South Africa...). Projects are always low-cost and practical. Their motto is "Design like you give a damn." They run Meetups in different parts of the country for architects (and other idealists) to get together and just socialize. Pretty simple and effective way to raise money: each person contributes the cost of one drink to the AFH fund.
Isn't it bothersome how the term "Architecture" covers both Koolhaas and Kosovo?
