I'm sorry I haven't been posting of late--for some reason, the Blogger connection from here (Shanghai) doesn't really work. But I've been noticing all manner of interesting stuff here, and I'll post more when I'm back in good old hi-tech Singapore.

However, I thought I owed y'all this one...

Plastic surgery in urban China has broken the boundaries of a "clinical" profession... it's now a big, quick, in-and-out business with spectacular results posted on billboards and taxi ads. Here's a before/after set from Kinway, one of the new practices which caters to the rising class of younger Shanghainese women with disposable income.

Apparently there are six million people working in China's cosmetic surgery industry (eh, maybe not that much since it's China), taking in about $2.4 billion a year. More amusingly, after a [regular] pageant contestant was barred from entering because of the $13,000 she spent on her body, they figured why not hold a pageant for plastic women?
