archipela-D'OH!
Wow. This is a new development from Nakheel, the folks who built that enormous palmate archipelago in Dubai not long ago. This is, yep, an enormous world map made up of 300 individual islands. To date, Nakheel reports that 10 percent have been sold--the first being the island that represents the UAE.
As described by the developers, "The World will be one of the most beautiful and exclusive destinations worldwide that captures the essence of the perfect getaway – a private island paradise where life slows down, sunsets are theatre and rain rarely falls." In a hugely clever moment of public relations, Nahkheel Chairman Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem announced that "whereby The Palm put Dubai on the map, The World is putting the map on Dubai."
Does this remind anyone, oddly, of "we didn't land on Plymouth Rock, Plymouth rock landed on..." Ah, forget it.
