Improv Everywhere Mission: Look Up More

People assemble in the heavily glazed windows fronting Union Square (NY) and stage a dance routine. Somewhere between high concept art and flash mobs. Is it just me, or has this kind of contemporary situationalism lost its novelty? I mean, it's funny and all, but it's not the shocking, inspirational thing it used to be. (And wasn't there an installation like this 30 years ago or so, involving dancers in a Mies facade?) It's just amusing now. What's next?

You know what could be next? Actually creating beautiful things, goddammit. Enough culture jamming, let's get on with the makey-make.

Well, the Improv Everywhere folks aren't visual artists, they are performing artists (disclaimer: I know some of them). Having seen many of them perform in a 'traditional' setting (the UDB), they certainly make something then, but it's also good that they are trying are getting away from the relatively cloistered community they exist in most of the time. Compared to other 'missions' I too would argree this isn't the most exciting (the McDonalds bathroom attendant was a great idea) or compelling, but I also don't think it's as little as retread situationism.
