Your charge detector is ridiculous
Build this simple "electronic electroscope," a FET electrometerOn a low-humidity day and with a 1/2 meter antenna wire, its little LED-light will respond strongly when someone combs their hair at a distance of five meters or more. If a metal object is lifted up upon a non-conductive support and touched to the sensor wire, the sensor can detect whether that object has an electrostatic potential of as little as one volt!
No, it's not useful, but the write-up is very easy to understand. (Learn why metals can be thought of as a sea of electrons and more.)

MAKE. I enjoy MAKE so much more than
wmmna. The projects are equally useless/useful, but the point is to have fun and experiment, whereas on wmmna most of the projects can't get away from "addressing" or "challenging" or "reconsidering" some sociological issue. Maybe it's an American thing, a Hotrod mentality.
